Public Policy and Advocacy

Many for purpose organisations and charities play a key advocacy role in giving voice to the issues of concern for their communities.

Advocacy activities and engaging with government policy influencers and policy makers takes time and expertise.  Investing time in policy submissions and policy responses can sometimes be challenging with limited internal policy expertise or resources.

How We Help

With more than two decades’ experience in leading successful advocacy campaigns and influencing government policy Sage Partners can help build your internal capacity and expertise such as:

  • Strategic counsel
  • Co-develop evidence based policy submissions and responses to public submissions
  • Co-development of effective advocacy campaigns
  • Introduction to specialists to add value to your campaigns such as health economists, researchers and other specialist experts.

An upcoming ACT election provided Carers Australia ACT with a great opportunity to campaign for better recognition and support of family carers in the ACT.

As CEO, Dee led and developed a campaign and resource “An ACT that Cares for Carers”.  This was a blueprint for the development of an ACT Carer Strategy.  It also included five evidence-based areas of need to improve the lives of carers and the family members they care for through increased social and economic participation.

The main political parties were asked to support the development of a Carer Strategy if they were to form the next government.

The proposal had bi-partisan support and was part of both main political party election mandates.

The ACT Carers Strategy 2018-2028 is now in place – ensuring that the stated priorities and outcomes for family carers remain on the government agenda and accountable through publicly available progress reports.

As CEO of MDFA, Dee also led the development of a ten-year National Strategic Action Plan for Macular Disease – positioning macular disease as a nationally recognised, priority chronic health condition.

“Dee is a very capable and results oriented senior executive. Dee is also an excellent communicator and leader who has developed and maintained strong working relationships within the sector. Dee is respected by politicians, senior bureaucrats, and the leaders of other NGO’s. This respect is reflected in the fact that Dee is regularly invited to provide advice or commentary on significant issues affecting the sector.”  Brett Walker, Past Chairman of Carers ACT.
